Enrolling for distance learning degrees is an affordable way to learn a new skill(s) quickly. You can improve your credentials to your current or future employer with minimum time and monetary investment. Distance learning degrees are available in many areas of study, business administration, finance, accounting, computer programming, criminal justice and more. There is unlimited potential to what you can enroll for you just need to find the school that offers it.

How does Distance Learning work?

Distance learning connects teachers and students together for coursework via the Internet. Usually students submit assignments, homework, ask questions and even take tests totally online. Some classes even have the option of attending a weekly lecture all over the Internet using your personal computer. What does this mean to you the student? Less time needed for classes, and easier to fit into your day-to-day activities.

How do you finance your Distance Learning Degrees?

Depending on your employer often times there are financing terms available from the business you work for to enroll in a distance learning degree. The knowledge and skills you learn will greatly benefit the company you work for. For example earning an MBA online is a pre-requisite today to advance into a middle management position with most medium and large companies. Basically your company is offering to pay for your distance learning to increase your pay and advance your career. Everybody wins in theses situations, distance learning makes sense to employers, they keep employees happy, and provide them with skills that make them better employees.

Now keep in mind there are some downsides to distance learning. The fact that there is no contact amongst classmates, or teachers is difficult for some. People often enjoy the relationships they make with other students this just isn’t part of the distance learning program. It is more difficult to locate scholarships will to pay for distance learning programs then for offline colleges. Also for a lot of people they find it’s just easier to learn from an instructor in a class room environment. They enjoy the interaction and visual aspect to the classes. Prior to deciding on a distance learning program ensure that you’re learning style suits the online course concept.

A warning to those going out to enroll in distance learning online programs, you should be aware that there are some scams on the Internet. Some companies will collect a fee for the program, require you to do little to no work and earn you diploma. Why so you ask? Because the diploma your earn is worthless, the company is not an accredited school allowed to offer such degrees. Thankfully it is easy to determine if a school is accredited. Most fields of study and your state government have lists available of what schools are accredited to provide such degrees online, be sure to check this ahead of time to ensure the study and work you do goes towards you end goal.

Distance Learning - Distance Education … How Far Away? - Part 1

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:01 am

Authors note: I recently dug this up. I wrote it in Sept 2000. After reading it again I realize it is still relevant.

I must admit the slightest pang of professional jealousy watching my counterparts involved in the new playground when I have not had the time. Of course looking at distance education from afar I have had some questions, even concerns with it as a viable means of education.

We live in an age where we email when a phone call should be made, and phone when we should speak in person. It is so easy to hide behind technology. It is difficult for many to know in what medium is the most appropriate to communicate in.

On-line has become the recent rage in many organizations and academic institutions. The savings to a company in travel and per diem are certainly compelling. One of the biggest edges I can see thus far is the ability to spread a class over a longer period of time. I have felt from day one in this business that trying to learn to do something non-trivial (program in a new language, design and implement telemetry systems, etc…) in three to five consecutive days of instruction is a major compromise in quality. It is further impractical to teach these classes over a spread out period of time where travel and per diem are factors. From this vantage distance education alone has a higher potential for learning to occur. But back to the reason it is the rage.

It is my premise that distance education is hot and available and being backed because of its potential for savings and its potential to educate a greater number that might not have the opportunity because of distance and schedule. I do not believe for a minute that the ivory towers are screaming for this medium because of its potential to be a better form of education than standup.

I can only point you to the frenzy that surrounded the shameful “boot camp” craze where one could actually learn a new profession in just a few weeks for a few grand. I smile inwardly every time I read one of the many articles (Authors Note: referring to the year 2000) talking about how IS managers are hiring CNE’s and MSCE’s that can’t mirror a disk or troubleshoot a problem. While I do not deny there may be a few gifted people that can really learn “How to administer NT Server” by going to 2 weeks of classes that help you cram for a paper based certification test, the majority of us are mere mortals that need some time and some practice and some experience. Also, I am greatly offended by the notion that one can become a certified engineer whose job competencies are performance based by taking a knowledge test. But to some managers a few hours in the evening and a few grand look mighty fine on the planning spreadsheet than the practical alternative. Reminds me of the old line, “How does one get to Carnegie Hall?”

My point here is not to trash boot camps, rather to offer an illustration as to the motivation for most people holding the purse and resources with respect to motivation. In many cases the first factor is typically not quality of education!

As educators, our first thought within a given medium of education had better be quality of education. I phrase this in this manner as there are times when factors apart from education itself have direct impact on the medium we get to use. As much as some of us would like to be total purists, reality dictates otherwise.

My greatest concern with on-line learning is that it has the potential of providing more physical distance between us. When will the first “on-line” marriage be held? There is a whole sociology and psychology emerging from the on-line culture. It is in a sense frightening for this introvert to watch a society move from the bonds of human interaction to this forum. No doubt we could dig up “death to the world as we know it” articles involving the advent of the telephone, the motion picture, television, and most other ground breaking inventions. This is not to say that these folks concerns were not (and still are not) very valid today.

I must admit the prospect of this medium excites me as I have visions of my log cabin home in the mountains, getting up every morning and after taking a morning walk in the woods before going to teach a class in my home office to 12 people scattered across the country! While this scenario to me is pretty cool, I feel some sense of a higher calling to my profession in that I have been initially somewhat reserved and skeptical regarding this

medium. The question for me becomes, can “On-line” be a valid and viable and sustainable form of education?

I believe it can. I also believe that money and resources will dictate that it stays around long enough to establish itself as the new frontier. I hope we never abandon stand-up as a medium. But after a careful and highly skeptical examination of this medium I have come to the following conclusions.

1. Enough quality educators will develop and deliver in this forum and give it the legitimacy and credibility it deserves to sustain it.

2. Just like stand-up it is and will continue to also have its share of charlatans and other misfits that have nary a clue with regard to the profession of education. These people certainly exist in droves in classroom based education and will end up migrating down this path.

3. As technology continues to advance, particularly in the area of telecommunications and bandwidth more opportunities will be available to us to use this form of education.

4. The need for student participation and interaction is just as high as it is in a stand-up class. I suspect the nature of this forum over stand-up, given the same good educator, presents itself as a better forum for interaction and community of learning than traditional college lecture halls, and time compressed corporate training.

5. Given the nature of this medium it will likely require a better formalization of course objectives, assessment and measurement tools than we currently have (or do not have) in stand-up.

Distance Learning

Students who are not physically sitting in a class room to get their education are taught using technology based instructional systems designed for remote access. This system is known as distance learning or distance education. Students and teachers communicate with each other through printed materials or electronic media or using a technology that provides real-time communications.

Distance learning uses regular mail for correspondence. Real-time or offline internet resources are also used in this system. Television or radio is used to make educational broadcasts to reach the students of distance learning.

Isaac Pitman used the very first modern distance learning system in 1840 to teach shorthand through correspondence.

Since 1946, correspondence courses in the distance-learning mode were offered by the University of South Africa, which is one of the oldest distance learning universities in the world. In UK, the Open University was founded in 1969.

For-profit institutions, non-profit organizations, public and privates institutions are offering degree programs and courses in distance learning. There is varying level of accreditation for such institutions. Some of the institutions in USA have very little focus from the countries outside and some of them are mere diploma mills, which are mostly fraudulent.

The distance-learning program was greatly benefited in the twentieth century by using Internet, television and radio.

Even though the presence of a student is not compulsory in distance learning, with the advent of technology, physical presence or lack of it has become an option. In distance learning, electronic classrooms can be classified as off campus or on campus. It is known as institutions using a mode of delivery, which is flexible. Find more info at .distance-learning4u.info

In many cases, students do sit in traditional classrooms and they are connected to a teacher in a distant classroom through videoconference. This technology increases the power of teaching and learning.

During its history, distance learning has passed through the experience of four to five different methods of teaching using the technology available at that time. The technology that was used were print, video/audio broadcasts, teleconference using video/audio technology, instruction aided by computers and computer based broadcasting. In developing nations, the radio is used for distance learning and considered to be a very powerful medium. In India the virtual university and distance learning centers use FM broadcasting which is very popular among the students.

Earlier models of distance learning used regular mail to dispatch written materials. Among the developing nations, this method is still used in distance learning.

In distance learning both full time and part time studies are possible but most of the students prefer part time studies. Even though distance learning is offered at various levels, it is the most popular option for university level studies.

Distance learning is also known as correspondence courses since the teacher and the student corresponded through the regular mail. For children living in remote areas secondary and primary education programs are available.

Testing material caused trouble for distance learning right from its inception. The problem occurs when the student has to complete the assignment and undergo testing. In distance learning a student is completely removed from supervision during the evaluation period.

Distance Education

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 4:11 pm

You feel your current status in your work area is taking you absolutely no where some people choose to get some type of distance education by the use of the Internet. However, in some areas this isn’t possible for the simple fact that most of these distance educations are somehow connected to local community colleges or vocational schools as well.

Although in some states, there are ways of going through college courses by the use of the Internet but designed as distance education for the simple procedure that it isn’t some big state college usually.

They are considered local or under a government program however completely legitimate in obtaining a degree on the Internet. Some people are capable of getting assistance to further their learning with distance education programs while others pay monthly installments after a small initial fee to begin your distance education. This also depends on what it is you plan on taking as far as courses and how long you plan to take. Some colleges offer distance education programs and courses for 12, 18, and 36 months. Whichever one you choose is ultimately up to you in most cases, however there are exceptions to some of the courses. Meaning, in some courses the time frame may be limited to a certain period of time for the distance education, while others may be offered for longer periods of time, or you can receive extensions on your distance education courses.

This of course all depends once again, on which college you choose to go through. When searching for the right college on the Internet you don’t have to go with the first college you see in the search results. Do some reading and compare a few, to see which offers the distance education courses that will ultimately benefit you in the long term effect of your future. If you jump into the first one, you may find that a different college had different benefits or courses, or ways of payment plans. Not to mention, instructors assistance that are available to you if you have a question or problem. Some colleges on the Internet do not offer such instructors or teachers. You have to mail them by the U.S mail or go to the college itself and this doesn’t help when your distance education was based on being able to use the Internet to obtain a degree in a course in the first place.

Putting the entire subject of distance education into perspective, go with a college that fits you, your individual purposes, and needs. Things like time frames, fees, training and other points of interest should all be taken into consideration. By keeping in mind that the distance education you want is for the purpose of giving you a better future or an opportunity of obtaining a better career or job.

There are some circumstances where financial assistance is available even for Internet distance educations, just as if there were tuition fees at a college you were actually going to attend and be in the classroom. You can find all of this information out, usually by simply reading the facts, and different areas on the college web site you are considering to use for an Internet distance education.

E Learning

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 8:33 am

Learning has come a long way since the first schools began to the introduction of text- books and classrooms, to now learning and taking courses on the computer. This is also known as E learning.

What a wonderful tool to have E learning provides ample opportunities for people all over the world. And believe it or not, it is possible for a 2nd grade class to take a field trip from Maryland to California! All through virtual connection by using the computer or E - learning.

But how did all this E learning come to pass? Well as time went on and more and more people were able to connect to the world wide web, more research and development went into E &ndashlearning.

Researchers began looking at different ways of using technology to help people learn as well as send emails and do other things by using the Internet access. And with the introduction of more software and E learning solutions such as HTML and other vital file information things began to move even faster for the world wide web and the idea of E &ndashlearning stayed on the minds of those who were in the field of learning and technology.

Soon, media players were designed and mp3 players and streaming video or audio, the list just kept getting longer and longer. The use of flash player and Java came along, and all the while those creating these designs had E-learning going on all the while. A revolutionary means of doing things on the Internet like never before, from looking up someone’s address to sending a picture or email, right back to looking up research for assignments. E learning was inevitable for the world wide web and our society.

Then web casts and animation was created as well as better graphics to eventually the web cams allowing virtual tours and field trips or other world wide things no one thought would be possible, but with E Learning it was true and possible to achieve.

Finally with even higher technology and performance like DSL , broad band, and IP networking as well as other applications connecting the world wide web E learning was increased again. With every piece of technology adapted into the world wide web and the Internet that so many people in the world use today, E learning is obviously here to stay.

In fact out of every ten homes in the United States today eight out of those ten have computers and access to the Internet so E learning is definitely here to stay.

Now we have real time capabilities and other sources beyond even our own comprehension unless we are the researchers and developers of a lot of the concepts of the computer and the Internet. E learning is a good tool, and one that simply keeps getting better and improved all the time.

E learning is basically technology in action and that is exactly what the Internet is, and today, there are mp3 players all over the place, desktop computers, iPods, laptop computers, PDA’s and so much more and new products come out all the time. E learning is technology in motion.

Discover What Free Education Grants Are Available

The US government has always been a benevolent one that appreciates that the future of the country is in the hands of its youth. Education is the best means of ensuring that the youth of the country grow to be respectful citizens who can contribute to the society in some way or other.

One of the efforts to this cause has been the free grant that the federal government provides for tertiary education to the various schools and certified education programs. These free grants are meant especially for those people who would like to avail of further education but do not have the financial capability to fund their own education.

The US federal government provides these grants to a wide variety of educational institutions. These include various schools, educational programs, universities, small arts colleges, technical schools, vocational programs, trade schools and even community colleges. The magnanimous sum of $67 billion is distributed among the institutions that have been identified each year. This is done in the form of loans, grants, campus-based aid and the like. It is the duty of the educational institutions to forward these grants to the eligible and deserving students in their programs. The dissemination of these grants could be done each semester, trimester or quarter based on the educational institution.

The federal Pell Grant is one of the many grants that form a part of this philanthropic exercise. The beneficiaries of this grant are not expected to return the aid in any manner. The specific amount of money that is doled out per student depends on the financial need of the individual but the maximum amount that can be given to one particular person is dictated by the Congress each year.

Free grants also come in the guise of campus based aid programs. The known associated for this kind of a free grant are the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Federal Perkins Loan programs. These kinds of grants are provided to the programs that are managed directly by the financial aid office.

For a student to be awarded a free grant, some eligibility criteria need to be fulfilled. The beneficiary needs to be a citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen and should have a valid social security number. A high school diploma or a General Education Development certificate is a must. If these are not available a special test for ‘ability to benefit’ can be used which the expectant student needs to pass. To avail the grant the student needs to enroll in the program as a regular student and apply for the grant later. Male students in the age group of 18 to 25 years need to register for ’selective’ and be ‘eligible’ or ‘partially eligible’ on the drug conviction question.

Discover The 7 “Must Know” Keys To Homeschooling Success

The decision to home school your child can be a very difficult decision to make. With the high rate of two-income families today, many parents wonder if they can make the financial and time sacrifice, even it is the right thing to do. Many more wonder if their children can get the same level of quality education if they choose homeschooling. However, despite these concerns, the rate at which parents are choosing to home school their kids continue to rise.

There are a huge number of reasons why parents choose to home school their kids. For many parent, it is because they want to be able to add religious content to their children’s learning experience. For others, they see the decline in the public education system today and want to choose something that is better for their kids.

According to a recent an August 2006 ABC 20/20 special, many kids today are not being taught even the needed fundamentals for them to graduate. For example, one student was interviewed who was in high school but was only able to read properly at a fourth grade level. Another student interviewed mentioned that cheating was actually encouraged by his teacher - goodness!.

Although the public education system is not as good as it should be and expected today, the decision to homeschooling as an alternative is one that should not be taken too lightly. When choosing to home school your kids, you must first consider these 7 things:

1. Time commitment

Homeschooling has a tendency to take up a lot of time of the parent. The process involves more than just sitting down with books for a couple of hours. There are experiments and projects that have to be done, lessons to prepare, papers to grade, field trips, park days, music lessons, and the list just keeps on going and going. Fortunately, you can go online and search for some homeschool sample schedules that will help to give you an idea of a typical day.

2. Personal sacrifice

The homeschooling parent sacrifice much and has very little personal time or time alone and away from their children. If a lot of care is not taken to set aside time for yourself, it is easy for the parent to feel overwhelmed and stress. It is not unusual for the parent and child to be together 24 hours a day, which can eventually lead to frustration on both sides.

3. Financial problems can arise

Though homeschooling can be accomplished with very little cost to you; however, it usually requires that the teaching parent not work, either out of the home or not. Some sacrifices will need to be made if the family is used to depend on two incomes. Of course, if you are a single parent, this could be an even bigger problem.

4. Time for socialization

More attention will need to be given to getting your children to spend time together with his/her peers. The best part of homeschooling is being able to have more control of the potential social contacts your child makes. However, the downside is that you must personally prepare your child yourself on how to socialize with other kids. Homeschooling can have a tendency to make your child feel quite isolated.

5. Household organization is harder

Housework, laundry and other chores will still have to be done, but it probably will get done first thing in the morning. If you are a neat freak, you might be in for a big big surprise. Not only does housework need to be let go at times, but also homeschooling does creates messes and clutter on its own. You will have to get really organized so that you can keep your home together.

6. Both parents must agree to it

It is important that both parents agree to the idea of homeschooling. It is very difficult for this to work if one of the parents is against it right from the start. If your spouse is against it at this time, try doing more research and talking to more people so that you can be absolutely certain it is something that both of you can agree upon and pursue. Otherwise, the chances for success are very much smaller.

7. Your child has to be willing

A willing student is crucial to the success of homeschooling. Ultimately, the decision is the parents to make, but if your child is dead set against it, you might have a very difficult time in teaching and convincing them. The fact of the matter is that an unwilling child can sabotage his/her own education progress efforts.

There is a lot more to homeschooling than is often seen at first sight. As a parent, you must know that your child’s education is the most important factor in their future. You need to be thoroughly prepared for all of the time and commitment that is going to be involved. If you are thinking of choosing homeschooling for your children, it will be very important to network with other like-minded parents in your local area. Not only will this help with the program planning process, but will also provide a place to share ideas and concerns with others who are probably experiencing the same thing.

Direct Success With A Computer Programming Degree

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 5:23 pm

A computer programming degree is one of the most sought after degrees in the field of information technology. While it is often mistaken as one of the easier areas of IT, the truth of the matter is: those who do not have an aptitude for detail or the ability to think in an abstract manner may not find it as easy as they assume it is. A computer programmer is one who, like other hands on vocations, must work with extreme precision and craftsmanship.

At the same time, many people choose computer programming because it is not a deep or multi faceted subject as that of chemistry, physics or other material sciences. While computer science has its own theories, it is not the center of the world for computer programming. Many enjoy computer programming for its physical, hands on approach.

One of the things that can make earning a computer programming degree much easier is a natural tendency for paying attention to detail. Unknown to many, computers are simple machines that will only do as they are instructed. A programmer whose job is to set forth directives knows that leaving out even the smallest part of information can cause major problems.

Another helpful skill to have is that of a good memory. The number of variables that go into a computer program concerning syntax, functions, bugs, solutions and much more can be quite staggering. However, the more information and data one can remember on their own, the more successful their career will be.

Some would say the most crucial skill for this line of work is being able to keep a number of complex working systems in mind all at once. While this will take some time and skill to master, it is one of the great traits of a computer programmer. This ability to think abstractly can help with programs exhibiting up to 1,000,000 or more lines of code.

Typically, a Bachelor’s degree is required for many entry-level positions in this field. Those who graduate with a Bachelor’s degree will have training in analytics and the implementation of computer systems as well as maintenance and even design. With this type of computer programming degree one may find themselves with career opportunities in software programming, network programming or website programming.

A master’s degree in computer programming allows graduates to implement high-level software programs. Because of the ever-changing world of technology, they often design software for business environments that greatly rely on technology as well. While being trained in a number of different programs, those with Master’s degrees also put their leadership skills into use as the head or director of IT departments.

Whether opting for a Bachelor’s or Master’s, many in this field find they have the benefit of one of the highest earning powers of any industry available. With such a heavy dependence on computers and technology, the demand for such professionals is in just about every area on the map. There is no doubt that this is a strong profession with a solid future.

This type of degree means always getting to be at the forefront of the latest changes. Programmers must also earn certifications in certain programs and update them regularly to keep up with the newest technologies. Many in this field enjoy the opportunity to continue learning and the ongoing training needed in this fast paced world.

A computer programming degree encompasses so much that many in this field find their career constantly evolving right along with technology. There are so many different areas in which to branch out and grow, there is no worry of ever becoming bored or getting stuck in a rut. Programmers have the fulfillment that comes with seeing their work have a positive effect.

Dinosaur Bones

Dinosaurs, of all known animals, are quite popular mystifying creatures and are well identified by children of all ages. Dinosaurs were real and live animals that lived in most regions of the world and were completely wiped out 65 million years ago. The cause of their extinction is still debated but most of the researchers agree that when alive, the dinosaur dominated the wilds. We are aware of their existence by their remains, usually documented in bones, either found as complete skeletons or separately. We have also found their footprints in rock, as well as some eggs rooted in them. Most of the bigger dinosaur specimens have now been collected and displayed in larger museums.

Most of the researchers around the world agree that dinosaurs are one of the larger species that lived in the Age of Reptiles, which was about more than 200 million years ago. It is estimated that the dinosaur age lasted for some 165 million years. During this time period, many types of dinosaurs roamed the wilds. Researchers have successfully come to know the variety of species of dinosaurs that existed during this time. This is done by the study of fossils of dinosaur bones being found out at different places of the world. However, many dinosaurs will never be discovered. This is due to the reason that only very few dinosaur bones are in reality fossilized through the delicate and temperamental process. In such a case, the tiniest dinosaurs and the largest will most likely be a mystery for the rest of time. Till this time, many dinosaur bones have been discovered only a few complete skeletons have ever been found. When scientists try to assemble a skeleton from bones, most of the process involves a large amount of assessment between size and morphology of other bones.

The fossilized dinosaur bones that have been unearthed from different parts of the world have helped us to know more about the mystifying creatures. The fossils of dinosaur bones serve as evidences that most dinosaurs had large bodies. Even the tiniest dinosaurs were bigger than anything else in their ecosystem and the largest dinosaur bones ever found indicate animals on a scale never seen in modern times. Dinosaurs bigger than the 38 ft tall Brachiosaurus found in Tanzania sometime between 1907-1912 have only been indicated by isolated bones.

Dinosaur bones can expose important information about the behavior of the dinosaur in its living environment. Time and again, computer simulations are employed to comprehend how a dinosaur with certain bones might have moved. These simulations compare the bones of the dinosaur with bones from more modern animals and then reconstruct the kinetics of movement based on the shapes of the bones. Because dinosaurs are thought to be more closely related to animals like birds and crocodiles rather than mammals, behaviors from these animals can be used to estimate dinosaur behavior. The analysis of bones used for movement, or Biomechanics, gives scientists information as to how quickly dinosaurs moved, if some dinosaurs could swim, and reveals whether ideas like sonic booms created by the diplodocid tail are fact or fiction.
