The fact of the matter is that not one person knows just exactly are the specific problems that could eventually result during a major and over all emergency. The best thing one could possibly due is make himself prepare for anything that could happen.

Water is life, life is water

As much as possible, try to keep a water supply of a gallon for every person each day and one that would be enough to go on for up to three to seven days.

Water should be kept in containers made of plastic. Also, make sure that you also have filters and tablets for the purposes of purification ready and available when needed.

Store food for you and your family

Food that is not as easily perishable should be stored for you and your family, and such foods must be enough to last you, your family, as well as your pets, for three days up until one week.

Examples of such foods are canned goods, powdered juices, boxed vegetables and food.

Have an alterative

It is always a wise idea to have a cooking source that could serve as an alternative besides the usual electric stove you may be used to.

Having a ready barbecue stove or a propane stove on hand is the best recourse if in case the electricity goes out or if gas becomes no longer available.

However, if you are to utilize propane, ensure that the tank is completely full and that an extra propane tank is also available.

Collect clothes

Have a ready and available stock of clothes for your kids and yourself as well as sleeping bags.

Collect wood

Having a steady supply of good wood is also a good idea as these could be used for those fireplaces or for stoves that use wood for burning.

Have a light

A flashlight is the item that you simply could not do without especially during emergencies. Try to consider using recharging through solar means as well as units that are cranked by hand. This is in order to avoid any future worries on batteries.

Keep prescriptions

As much as possible, try to keep any prescriptions that you or your family member may have filled. Also, try to maintain an added supply of medication both non-prescription and prescribed ones.

Contact your healthcare provider for any refill prescriptions in advance.

Have cash and some gas

Credit is good unless there is an emergency. Try to keep ready cash just in case the atm’s fail or the system of your bank is not working.

Also, it is best if you keep the gas tank of your car half full. This is so to avoid the long lines in gas stations.

Have books

During emergencies, it could be safe to have some books and some board games available to entertain yourself during power failure.

Know thy neighbor

It is also better if you acquaint yourself with the neighbors you have in your area. There could be instances wherein you ay need each other’s help if ever the basic services are somewhat interrupted.

All in all, preparation is always the best cure against any unexpected circumstance that an emergency might bring.

Although there are many areas where the internet has been a boon for dissemination of information, one of the most exciting advances is in the field of learning languages online. It has long been know that the most effective way of learning a new language total immersion in the language, 24 hours per day, and 7 days per week. Even for an adult, typically this type of regimen will mean approximately 6 weeks to understanding and being able to function at a rudimentary level in the language. I’m So Glad I’m Not A Loser I Got My PhD In Money At Success University

You know what; thoughts of being a loser have always seemed to hunt me down like a pack of misfortune. I couldn’t have the right job; get the right girl let alone driving the fancy car of my choice. All I seemed to get was crumbs and this actually got to the point where I was comfortable about being a loser, I accepted every card I was dealt whether good or bad, I was just breathing to be everyone’s doormat.

Something had to change, I told my self, no more and this time I really meant it! No more settling for second best, I am going to live my life the way I want to live it. The thing that was giving me so much drive to succeed was jealousy, Yep, pure green envy jealousy, for this kid who was a nobody, his status was even below my loser mentality, but in a matter of couple of weeks he had become a high flyer just from the internet, and I had to find out how he did it. Man, if a dumb ass like that can get rich in a matter of weeks from the internet, I can do it too; I mean how hard could it be.

Instead of surfing for porn that night, I googled for every term about making money on the internet, you know, phrases like GIVE ME THE MONEY NOW, MAKE ME RICH TODAY and every other money making scheme I could think of. Man!!! I hit the jackpot; there were tons of ways to make money on the internet for losers like me. It is so easy all I have to do is be someone’s affiliate and the money will come rolling, bummer is, I need a website. Wait, hey here’s something, for $49 The Guy Who Made A Billion From A Million will show me how to make my first million tomorrow, All for $49 dollars, wait what’s this, Limited number of books only two copies left Buy Now!! So I borrowed my mom’s credit card, told her your son’s going to get rich and bought How I Made A Billion from a Million let me show you your first million tomorrow. I couldn’t wait to get rich. Ok people! This is not what I expected, a stupid pdf file, that’s all I get., 60 pages of BS, does that dummy think I have time to read this crap, I just want to get rich and he promised to make me a million $ by tomorrow. And now what’s this bonus, Oh my God more books, with more pages. I need to punch someone, and if it’s not the jerk who sold me this crap, it’s the rich kid from my block for scamming people, no one can make money from reading a stupid book, and it’s a lie.

My mom broke my ranting and raving, told me to shut and go sulk somewhere else, she doesn’t even know why she believed a loser like me could make anything great of himself. That hurt, but anyway I went down to the pub to drown my remorse. On my third refill, the barman looks at me and says, I know that look, “what look” I asked half angry. He laughed and said “you bought the book didn’t you; I can see it in your face”, he carried on about some kid who came in the bar a couple of months ago looking down just like me and rambling about some stupid worthless book, So I asked him, what happened to the kid and he said “that same loser, is worth millions now, unbelievable” he found all of that in that book, “plus some school he goes to on the net” echoed the guy sipping a Heineken in the next stool. That night I couldn’t get to sleep, I had to find out how he did it.

The more I snooped around to find the truth, the more I saw people just like me duplicating that rich kid and getting rich. The only way for me to find out was to join this school to riches; I took the plunge, paid a $2 dollar registration for 14 days and went to class. This was more than I expected, I was being coached by the most influential people of our time for just $2. The bonuses were real videos and audio tapes that guided me step by step to achieve my dreams. The best part was, immediately as I joined people just started pouring into my downline from my upline.

Ok! Even though school has turned me from a lazy, doubtful loser into being rich, I’m not complaining at all and guess what? I LOVE BEING RICH.

Ps. the book that sent me to the bar was actually really helpful, after I read it.

Ivy League Education

Jewelry In Ancient Rome

Jewelry (joias) is a fascinating fashion accessory that has been popular from ancient times. It has played a variety of roles including political, religious and ornamental, and jewelry artifacts have helped modern historians shape pictures of the daily lives of ancient civilizations.

Jewelry in ancient Rome is no exception. There are literary accounts and pictorial depiction such as in the Regina tombstone, plus an abundance of other artifacts available that help us to understand the role jewelry played during this fascinating time.

Jewelry (joias) was worn by men and women though it was subject to conventions of the time; particularly with regards to the appearance of men. Male jewelry was typically practical in nature. Men usually wore a single ring. The ring would serve a functional purpose. Typically a signet ring, the male jewelry item was used to seal official documentation. The male signet ring was initially iron but was later produced in gold as it displayed status and wealth more clearly.

Other practical uses of the signet ring included the inlay being a type of key for a strong box. Literary evidence suggests that propriety regarding male jewelry (joias) was ignored by a minority of fashion fanatics, as with any other social group. Trends and attitudes also changed from the time of Emperor Augustus. The emperors were established with official state clothing during his reign which included jewelry as a display of status and power.

Jewelry also had a protective function in ancient Rome. Boys wore an item of jewelry known as a bullah. This was worn from being a baby. It was worn around the neck and was a form of chain with a pouch which contained an amulet. This was a jewelry item worn by most classes, but the rich upper class had bullahs made of gold. The amulet was often phallic in design, as boys were considered to be the stronger species and so needed protection. With regards to women, jewelry (joias) was first and foremost a display of wealth and status. Women had no obvious status distinction through their dress like Roman men. When the Oppian law was passed in 195BC curbing the use of jewelry and suggesting it be handed over for war materials, women demonstrated against this in the streets. During the campaigns of Marcus Curellius, women chose to donate their jewelry (joias) to get enough gold to send a huge gold vase as an offering to Delphi. Their behavior was rewarded with speeches at funerals which had previously been only for men.

The type and amount of jewelry worn by women varied, but the richest women were the most flamboyant in terms of amount and style. Amber jewelry (joias) was only worn by lower class women and was thought vulgar by the wealthy who favored gold jewelry. Other items used to make jewelry include pearls, colored glass beads and polished stones. These would be inset in gold and would vary in size and style, depending upon status. It was possible to tell a lot about a woman in ancient Rome by the jewelry she wore.

The types of jewelry worn include necklaces with adornments such as pendants, amulets. Fibula which are similar to safety pins were used as fasteners and so were often adorned to make them a piece of jewelry that was both function and beautiful. Earrings were popular and came in both hoop and drop styles. Rings were usually inset with stones or carvings.

Particularly popular jewelry (joias) items were engraved gems which were referred to as intaglio. These were gems such as carnelian, jasper and chalcedony that had a sunken or engraved image, created with the use of wheels and drills.

Tomb jewelry findings suggest that bracelets were usually worn in pairs with one on each arm. Some tombs have revealed up to 7 items of jewelry on each arm which shows how the conventions for men and women differed. Even gold thread hairnets have been discovered.

Kansas City Schools Change Licensing Requirements

The state of Kansas’ Board of Education is expected to make a change to teacher licensure requirements that could help Kansas City Schools get the teachers it needs. According to Martha Gage, director of teacher education and licensure, the Professional Standards Board recommends the improvements.

The changes will allow teachers in Kansas City Schools, and across the state, to add subjects to their portfolios with greater ease. Why is this important to Kansas City Schools? As a result of the state increase in science department credits required for graduation, the Kansas City Schools cannot fill its need for chemistry and physics teachers. This change would allow a biology teacher to take the competency test in a different science area, like chemistry, and be qualified to teach it.

Opponents voice concerns that this change will not ensure that Kansas City Schools’ teachers are really prepared to teach such in-depth subjects. John Richard Schrock, director of the biology education program at Emporia State University, feels that passing a competency test alone is not enough. These Indianapolis Schools’ teachers might be required to take more courses just in order to pass the difficult tests, but even would that prove sufficient?

But that’s not the only change that will hit Indianapolis Schools if the state’s board of education passes the initiative. The changes are designed to remove cumbersome paperwork and redundant information from the process of becoming a teacher in Kansas. While that should sound good to everyone, the final change involves lowering the grade point average (GPA) required to obtain conditional certification. Currently, a teacher applicant in Kansas City Schools must have a college GPA of at least 2.5. Of course, a veteran teacher from out of state may have a wealth of experience, and be a great teacher, but have done poorly 25 years ago in college. Proponents claim that the GPA is just one indicator of an applicant’s ability to teach. While some argue for maintaining the higher standards, the need for Kansas City Schools to find qualified teachers seems to be winning.

Advocates of both Kansas City Schools and the Kansas National Education Association feel that these changes are a way to fill the teacher gap while still maintaining a reasonable standard for teachers. Standards for both teachers and students have been a hot button topic in Kansas City Schools since the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act went into effect in 2002. Its requirement for highly qualified teachers in areas like math and science, combined with the state’s increase in science credits for graduation has put Kansas City Schools in a teacher quandary. Kansas City Schools are not alone. Public schools nationwide have been forced to innovate and adapt in order to succeed in the current educational climate.
