Massage Courses - A Complete Review.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 9:42 am

Whether you decide to become a professional massage therapist, or just want to be able to give your boyfriend a better back rub, in all probability, there are massage courses available in the area that you reside in which are just suited for your interests. The best thing about massage courses is that they will give you such a valuable and useful skill, and that could possibly allow you to start the way to a lucrative and rewarding career.

Massage therapists have a great potential to earn just as much as doctors, with far less overhead and with a lesser time to complete their training. Of all, the best part of a professional massage therapist is that one can set his or her own hours, and does not have to deal with the HMO organizations nearly as much as a doctor. And even if it turns out that, once you’ve taken your massage courses, you discover that you don’t want to be a CMT, your massage therapist training will still have given you a great skill that you can use to make those around you very happy.

Among the various massage courses that were offered, the first course I had selected was actually a couples’ massage class down at the local community center. The couples’ format is suitable for massage courses which are not meant for professionals; because it means that anyone can come in, right off the bat, with someone whom they are comfortable practicing on. Sure, no one wants to take massage courses with total strangers, as it is hard to trust someone enough to let them really work on your body if you do not really know them that well.

Besides, after that class, I was addicted, and immediately I signed up for more massage courses. My boyfriend did too, and together we both decided to enroll in massage therapist training courses in Sacramento, CA. At this place it was much harder than either of us had realized. Although this might sound strange to you, but it was a draining experience taking massage courses all day long. Not only is there a fair bit of study of anatomy that you have to do, but on top of that the actual work of massaging is tiring. After some time it got so exhausted from our massage courses that we hardly ever exchanged back rubs anymore. But in the end, it was well worth it. At present we are both licensed massage therapists, and we both can spend our time making money doing something that we love. Truly there is really nothing better than that!

Mastering Japanese Kanji - 7 Guerilla Tactics

The adoption in around the 6th century CE of kanji by the Japanese from Chinese emissaries was a blessing for the Japanese language since it was the first time the language appeared in written form. At the same time, the act was destined to seem like a curse for the thousands of non-native Japanese speakers who have tried their hand at learning kanji. Simply put: mastering kanji is hard!

To the brain of the typical Westerner who has been raised on an alphabet-based Indo-European language like English, Spanish, or German, the prospect of learning and mastering kanji presents a special challenge. Each kanji is a pictograph, ideograph or phono-semiotic (ouch!) character and can consist of up to twenty individual strokes which need to be drawn in a particular order. Most kanji have three or more possible pronunciations and must be used in combination with one or more other kanji just to form a single word.

So, where does one start on the road toward mastery? Rather than repeat for you the conventional wisdom about mastering kanji, I will share with you seven tactics I learned as a veteran kanji studier.

In my case, I needed all the help I could get: after four years of university study of Japanese, I was still a kanji novice. The secrets I share with you here are the hard-won knowledge that helped me to pass Level 1 (most difficult) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) after just 15 months of self-study while working a full time job. And, the beauty of it is: you can use them right where you are RIGHT NOW to master kanji.

Tactic #1: Ignore the conventional study order:

Sure, start with the first 100 to 200 of the 1945 jouyou (common use) kanji until you get your feet wet. But then, dive right into the hard ones whenever you come across them, no matter how unfamiliar. This may seem like a harder road to tread initially, but the time you save in not having to distinguish between the kanji on your study list and those you are saving for later means more time and energy you can devote to studying.

Tactic #2: Parts is parts:

Learn first the meaning of 20 or 30 of the most commonly-occurring of the 214 radicals (i.e., basic building blocks of kanji) found on the front, inside cover of any kanji dictionary to become familiar with the majority of the kanji you encounter. Once you do, you will reap the rewards as you start to see each new kanji as a puzzle to be deciphered. You will recognize the individual components of the new kanji right away. This process is called “chunking” and goes like this: learning three, five-stroke components of a kanji is much easier than trying to remember fifteen individual strokes. Know the parts and the rest will be just a matter of putting the pieces together.

Tactic #3: Jump right into the hard stuff:

This refers specifically to the study of the written word rather than individual kanji. Even if you are a beginner, go ahead and read a bit of advanced text every day (newspapers, books, etc. ). This method is great for becoming familiar with the most common kanji combinations as they occur in their natural environments. By doing this, each seemingly foreign configuration of strokes will quickly become second-nature to you.

Tactic #4: Read aloud:

There are three major aspects to mastering a kanji: recognizing its structure/shape, knowing what it means, and being able to pronounce it correctly. A hugely efficient way of studying is to read aloud whenever possible. Reading kanji aloud is a great way to kill three birds (learning structure/shape, meaning, and sound) with one, big, noisy stone.

Tactic #5: Take your time in choosing your favorite learning materials:

One or more of any number of characteristics of a given kanji dictionary or study guide (e.g., font type/size, look-and-feel of the binding, cover design, paper quality: even the author photo or the smell of the ink) can affect whether you want to read more or just put it down and watch the Discovery Channel instead. Pay attention to your first impressions: if a book was recommended by a friend as “the best ever” but you just do not seem to click with it, boldly cast it aside and move on. You will be rewarded by much better retention if you study using the materials with which you feel most comfortable.

Tactic #6: Utilize multiple sources of the written word:

Science tells us that our brains are “plastic” in that the connections between our brain cells actually become stronger and more plentiful when we are exposed to new stimuli. Thus, be sure to expose yourself to the countless ways that kanji are represented in written form: books, newspapers, magazines, manga, street signs, legal texts, your sewage bill (if you live in Japan), cereal boxes - you name it! You will be rewarded with a quick advance in the rate of your kanji retention.

Tactic #7: Avoid getting hung up on the stubborn ones:

Set aside as special cases those kanji that you just cannot seem to make stick in your mind rather than keeping them as a part of your regular study routine. Doing so yields two powerful benefits. First, you can start feeling good again about the kanji you are learning just fine (thank you very much) and thereby maintain a steady pace as you review them in groups. Second, by singling out the troublemakers you make a special point to study them on their own terms and for what they are, thereby actually increasing your speed of mastery.

So, buck convention and get on the road to becoming a kanji master!

Materials That You Will Need For Homeschooling

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 10:05 am

Homeschooling may be unstructured but the unstructuredness lies on the time schedule of the lessons. Unlike with the traditional school setting, students of the homeschooling program are allowed to work at their own pace and to learn what they can learn at a certain period of time.

They are not required to finish a coursework without totally mastering the lesson. Because they do not have to learn alongside other kids, they are given more freedom to fully understand the lessons. In fact, some parents even allow their kids to go back and review previous lessons that they have not yet mastered.

Some are also given the chance to concentrate on subjects that they have not yet mastered while putting off the lessons of subjects that they find easy. For instance, if a child is good in English but not in Math, they can actually forgo with the lesson in English for a day and concentrate on their Math lessons. With homeschooling everything is tailorfitted to suit the needs of the child.

Still, like the traditional school setting, there are materials that are needed to teach the subjects to the kids. For instance, a curriculum is needed to give structure to the lessons. This is important as a basic flow is needed to give direction to the lessons. This is especially true with parents who have no previous experience in handling children or in teaching lessons.

Another material that should be used in homeschooling program is the worksheets. Unlike with the ordinary classroom setting where there are exams administered, with homeschooling program there are no tests per se, but there are worksheets that students need to answer so that their parents can determine their progress and their understanding of the lesson. This is where parents will base their decision to continue with the lesson and review or to proceed with the next lesson in the curriculum.

Visual aids are also essential in teaching. This is especially needed with subjects that are hard to fathom without concrete materials such as Science and Math. It will also be easier and more interesting for students to have visual aids when they learn a particular subjects as most learners are visual oriented.

Activities are also essential in the homeschooling program as it puts the fun into the learning. This can be done inside the house with lessons of Math and Science incorporated in domestic tasks such as cooking and planting. Outside activities such as visits to the zoos, museum and garden parks will also help in making kids understand the practicality of what they are learning.

Math Tutors May Not Be Answer To Mathematical Challenges

Although math tutors can help some students practice certain problems or learn tricks for the SAT, they can’t help all students who struggle with mathematical concepts on a consistent basis. Building up weak cognitive abilities is the best solution for students that often struggle with math. This process begins at the foundational level, and in the end is proven to be the most effective way for helping students overcome learning disabilities such as dyscalculia.

Struggling students can build up core mental skills, which will carry over into improved learning in math and also into reading and other aspects of daily learning. Strengthening cognitive skills is different than learning regular academic subjects such as history, science, or math. Cognitive skills enable you to effectively learn academic subjects.

Research from a reputable learning center proves that a cognitive-based approach is the way for students struggling with learning disabilities to really learn. They have studied over 10,000 students and have determined that cognitive training is the most effective approach. When helping students whom have difficulty with math this company works to improve numerical fluency and executive functioning skills which are at the core.

A good training system will cover several weeks time with complexity increasing each week. This system should help students strengthen and improve upon vital cognitive components including attention, comprehension, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, logic and reasoning, memory (working, procedural, iterative, and visual), numerical and fractional fluency, planning, problem-solving, and visualization. Each exercise will often include many of those cognitive elements at once for the most positive outcome. Research reveals that those students who have enhanced planning capabilities are able to master mathematical concepts with greater ease and effectiveness than those who don’t.

The good news is that students who seem to jump from math tutor to math tutor can be helped with a cognitive-based learning approach. If the problem is an underlying issue a student will never fully overcome their difficulties with math by simply going to a math tutor. It is important that you seek out a quality learning training center and find out if they take a cognitive-based approach to learning.

A good learning center will first run some tests on your child to determine the weakest cognitive skills. Once the issues have been identified a unique program will be developed to help your child overcome their learning difficulties. There is no “one-size fits all” or a cookie cutter approach to overcoming learning difficulties. Every child is different, so it will take a unique program tailored to their needs for them to overcome issues they are having with learning.

Maximize Study Time And Retention

Learning, studying and storing information requires a great deal of memorization skills. Memorization doesn’t come easy to those who have serious issues in doing the task at hand itself &ndash memorization. But for everybody else, it’s a task that comes naturally whenever necessary or needed. The thing about memorization is that not too many people have the knowledge to optimize the function of their brain and memorization abilities to the best it can offer. This what has been missing in man, the missing link in solving common setbacks and pitfalls in memorization.

What not too many people know back in the day when the advantageous technology called the Internet has not been born yet was the power or the natural ability of a person’s mind to use its memorization skills to maximum. The mind receives information from a set of list and retains the first few items, the last ones and some parts in the middle of the list with no problems. This process is called “primacy” and “recency” but the problem isn’t faced not until the task of recalling the entire items in the list is specified. This isn’t the problem at all; in fact, it’s what the normal brain does.

The solution to the problem of optimum learning and memorization is to give the brain a rest. It’s important to break down the total time for studying into 40-50 minutes because the times the brain rests is the same time when it actually absorbs all the information learned from the last 40-50 minutes work.

The idea is to give the brain more breaks, approximately 10 minutes each break time so when it starts to work again, the natural extremities of the brain (“primacy” and “recency”) starts to work to receive information from where it has last stopped. 10 minutes because the brain’s retention ability works about this long and then drops off again. This idea makes the brain work naturally and efficiently without putting any pressure to the student.

Mayor Reorganizes New York City Schools Again

Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave his State of the City speech recently and included some unexpected changes for the New York City schools that could profoundly change their current operation. Though the pre-speech release noted that his speech would focus on tax cuts, many were caught by surprise on what could be called only his second reorganization of the New York City schools.

The announcement was followed by a prepared public relations campaign of press briefings and New York City schools’ chancellor Joel Klein spoke to business leaders the following day. Here are the major points of the mayor’s announcement:

• The New York City schools would remain public and under the control of the Department of Education. The department will continue to be responsible for setting educational standards, allocating funds to the New York City schools, and hiring/firing New York City schools’ principals.

• Principals will be empowered to control key issues within their New York City schools. They will have more autonomy, beginning with the next school year, managing their individual budgets and staffing, as well as determining the best teaching approach for their individual New York City schools. Principals will be expected to partner with a support organization.

Along with empowerment and more autonomy comes more accountability. An array of measurements will be employed to ensure the principals are succeeding in their New York City schools. Student grades will be accessible to parents, one of the most effective forms of accountability. New York City schools’ principals who do well will enjoy additional funding for their schools.

Mayor Bloomberg sees this move of empowerment and accountability as a longtime corporate success tool &ndash succeed or lose your job. Others worry he may be losing sight of the learning and teaching aspect of education.

• Support organization partnerships will be established for each of the New York City schools. Each support organization comes from a private group, such as nonprofit agencies and colleges/universities. The support organization will provide professional development support to the principal, his teachers and staff. It will help interpret test results and other statistics, as well as identify helpful teaching approaches for the individual New York City schools.

• Four years ago, when the mayor took control of the New York City schools, he created ten regions. Now that they have served their purpose and completed their work, they are being eliminated. The mayor did not address, however, what group or agency would be responsible for the administration of high schools and admissions for middle schools, previously handled by the regions.

• Chancellor Klein has long criticized the New York City schools’ tenure policy of three years on the job and a teacher qualifies for tenure, making it difficult to fire ineffective teachers. Under the mayor’s new proposal, the tenure standards will become more difficult but not impossible to achieve. He intends to work with the United Federation of Teachers (the teachers’ union for the New York City schools), whose consent is required for any major changes in tenure policy. The mayor aims to use tenure to improve teacher quality with salary increases, develop a program for experienced “lead teachers” to mentor others, and a housing bonus for experienced teachers in teaching fields of short supply.

• Lastly, the mayor is looking at changing the New York City schools’ funding formula. He wants to fund each child rather than each New York City schools, believing the current policy is extremely complex and unfair. Each of the New York City schools would receive $3,000 to $3,750 per child with additional funding for poverty-level, non-English speaking, special education, and/or low academic performance-level children. There may possibly be extra funding for the gifted and talented children.

Comments and discussions already have commenced from parents, special interest groups, and advisory councils/committees. It is difficult to see how all of the mayor’s changes will benefit the New York City schools’ students directly. Parents especially have an interest is seeing smaller class sizes and keeping their children from dropping out of school &ndash none of which was mentioned in the mayor’s announcement.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has introduced the “Preschool Matters” program that will greatly impact future Denver schools students, if passed by voters in the November election. The early childhood education program is endorsed by the mayor and other Denver officials.

City Council President Michael Hancock believes the measure to be extremely important to the city and the Denver schools. Denver schools Superintendent Michael Bennett agrees, stating that Denver schools educators will do everything they can to pass the measure in November.

The program was developed from recommendations submitted to the mayor by his task force, which was charged with increasing preschool access for Denver’s children. Hickenlooper believes that access to quality and affordable preschools is crucial to the city’s future, as well as an essential part of improving the Denver schools.

Documented studies show that preschool is one of the best investments for any city and its youth. A recent study in California by the Rand Corporation found that a return on investment of $2.62 in savings could be garnered for every dollar spent on preschool. The savings is realized through lower juvenile crime and high school dropout costs &ndash saving dollars for both Denver and the Denver schools, as well as graduating better educated Denver schools students.

Other studies have shown that the Denver schools children will be more likely to read by the third grade, less likely to require remedial education, and more likely to graduate high school and enter college.

Preschool Matters, which will greatly benefit the Denver schools and their students, will cost $12 million annually. The mayor is asking for an increase in sales tax that will equal 12 cents on every $100 of purchases within the city. If passed, the Denver sales tax will still be highly competitive with other Front Range communities.

Funding of the program covers:

• Tuition Credits &ndash Open to children only for the year before entering kindergarten. Children are generally four-year-olds, and the program may be used only for one year. Credits are distributed based on need and the quality of the preschool program selected.

• Outreach and Enrollment.

• A Quality Improvement System for preschool providers and programs.

• Administration of the program by a nonprofit organization that still must be created.

• Internal and External Accountability, Measurement and Reporting &ndash Covers the number of children enrolled in preschool, the number of quality rated providers, the program finances, and the academic success of the children who attend preschool.

Preschool Matters is similar to a defeated California measure, called Proposition 82. Though both programs expand preschool for four-year-olds, the California measure was much broader in application and based on an income tax increase only for incomes of $400,000 or more annually &ndash as compared to Denver’s sales tax increase for everyone, making individual contributions minimal. The California measure also was in competition with an alternative offering by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Opponents to Preschool Matters believe there already are opportunities in place through the Denver schools that may be used to expand early childhood education. They believe the mayor is only creating a bureaucracy with administrative overhead. Opponents, as well as all Denver voters, will have their say in November.

MBA Distance Learning: Know Your Facts

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 9:57 pm

So you’re ready to pursue your Master of Business Administration degree. You’ve done most of your homework, found a number of online college programs that offer an MBA degree, but now it’s time to get down to the specifics. Most people have lots of questions that need to be answered about obtaining an MBA degree, so let’s get started.

Most business schools, as well as major universities, both online and off, offer Master of Business Administration degrees. Today, more than ever before, students seeking any Master’s degree are doing so online, most often because it affords a flexibility not found in traditional brick and mortar college campuses and coursework schedules. In this method, full coursework loads are sent to students who then develop their own pace for completing required coursework and exams requirements.

Today, nearly 93% of students attending online colleges for an MBA degree work full time, and nearly 81% serve in management positions. That doesn’t leave a lot of extra study time, but determination and focus offer the drive necessary to earn degrees in spare time. While many older adults are now pursuing Master’s degrees online, most men and women doing so are around 35 years old and have been employed in the workplace for at least 10 years. What does this say? It says that the value of education, especially a Master’s degree, of any type, will offer many in the business and science world the opportunity to step up the ladder of success.

Keep in mind that there are many jobs and careers that don’t require employees or management staff to hold a Master’s degree, so if you’re earning one for employment, and not self-improvement reasons, make sure that your time and money will be well spent in the pursuit of one. Today, most students seeking an MBA degree are already employed in government, manufacturing, IT, finance, self-employment and consulting positions, just to name a few.

Most MBA online degree programs allow students to specialize in various fields, so take the time to do a little research and determine the best program to suit your needs and personal desires. Most students will spend approximately 3-4 years to complete coursework in order to obtain their Master’s, but that’s just a general, and some take longer, while others may take less time. Fees will vary depending on the online campus you choose as well as your specialty. When seeking the right college for you, determine the availability of financial aid and student support, and take the time to seek scholarships and grants when needed. Seeking a Master of Business Administration degree won’t be easy, and it certainly won’t be cheap, but it will be more than worth your efforts in the long run when compared to an increase of earning power and reputation. However, you must be able to work independently and pursue your coursework goals with a minimum of student/instructor assistance, so those who are serious about their goals will achieve the best results from this type of learning method.

Mayor Villaraigosa Shares Control Of The Los Angeles Schools

Last month, I wrote in an article about Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa proposing a legislative bill to take control of the Los Angeles schools (see Los Angeles Schools Strongly Opposed to Takeover by Mayor Villaraigosa). Reform Bill 1381 passed the state legislature at the end of August, with some changes.

Villaraigosa, who portrayed himself as the one person who could make a success of the Los Angeles schools system, instead must share control of the school system with the Los Angeles schools board and the Council of Mayors. The mayor did, however, receive direct control of three low-performing high schools and their feeder elementary and middle schools.

The final reform bill makes running the Los Angeles schools much more complex for everyone concerned. First, there is a logistical problem with Villaraigosa and the Los Angeles schools board in two separate locations, making decision making a longer, more drawn out process. The role of teachers in deciding curriculum now is uncertain, and many believe the mayor’s plan may impede new school construction, considered a successful endeavor by the Los Angeles schools board. The bill’s language is confusing, already causing conflicting interpretations.

There also is a question on the legality of the bill, which is expected to face an immediate legal challenge. The Los Angeles schools board, which was adamantly opposed to the bill, already has discussed a lawsuit, claiming that the bill violates the requirement in the state constitution that schools remain within the educational system. The opinion of the legislature’s counsel is that the Los Angeles schools board has a case, but Villaraigosa believes it will survive a challenge.

Ever the politician, the mayor now is looking to foster cooperation with teachers, parents and the Los Angeles schools board, but he may find this difficult. He leveled blistering criticism at the school board and its members over the past year. Even Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg (D-Los Angeles) criticized Villaraigosa during a hearing by the Assembly Education Committee, which she chairs, stating that she was disappointed that he did not have the same dialogue with the Los Angeles schools board as he did with the teachers’ unions.

Villaraigosa continues to promote the passage of the bill as an opportunity for parents, educators, the Council of Mayors, the cities and himself to partnership for the betterment of the Los Angeles schools. Though no clear specifics have even been given by the mayor on how he will proceed, he remarked that the new power-sharing arrangement will reshape and invigorate a “lethargic bureaucracy that has underserved generations of students”. He further stated that success depends on his leadership and the contributions of his Los Angeles schools partners.

MCSE Training In Alabama Has Never Been Easier

The world is changing and the business world seems ready to go with it. For those who have been involved in this changing dynamic in corporate America, knowledge of computers and computer systems is absolutely essential. Not only are there new job opportunities opening up in the computer industry, but more and more corporate management positions require a heightened ability to use the computer. In the past, having some knowledge of computer systems was a huge plus when applying for new jobs. In today’s working world, those technical abilities are an absolute must. If you are looking to get ahead, however, you should consider MCSE training in Alabama. Becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer has never been easier, as programs are geared toward the busy business professional.

The certification process for the MCSE certificate is a fairly difficult one, but with some training, it is doable. By passing as few as seven core computer-based exams, many can walk away with the knowledge to go forward in the business world. For the extremely computer savvy individual, these tests are a breeze. The rest of us might need a little bit of training, though. Like any college course or vocational training class, MCSE training will break down not only the basics of the Microsoft Systems, but also the ins and outs of the test itself. Having an advanced knowledge of the computer programs themselves might not be enough, as the core exams can be extremely tricky without the necessary training.

The key to MCSE training in Alabama has nothing to do with how much computer knowledge or technical training you already possess. In order to really have the ability to master the core exams, you must be put through a series of hands-on sessions of advanced instruction. Studies have proven time and time again that the best way to master material of a technical nature is through repetitive mental practice. In this regard, training your mind to grasp the very technical ideas behind the Microsoft systems will enable you to pass the certification program with a measure of ease.

Another great way to train for the MCSE core exams is through a cooperative learning effort. When you come to training sessions, you will be put through not only a rigorous mental workout, but also a team effort that incorporates the mind power of many individuals. By working closely with not only the certified instructors, but with other individual business people just like yourself, you can learn at a level and pace that suits your style. In addition, this emphasis on group work will promote a sense of team building that is essential in the working world. When dealing with the often-frustrating computers, it is always best if your corporate team knows how to work together to get the job done the right way.

Many business owners are sending their current employees to these advanced programs in order to stay ahead of the curve. By sending their workers together to classes, the employees gain the first-hand knowledge of how to work with their fellow-employees while gaining the necessary training to become a MCSE. When these workers return to their place of business with this new knowledge and fancy new title, that business has the ability to become something of a corporate juggernaut in an ever-changing business landscape.

If you are trying to get ahead in the business world, consider looking into MCSE training in Alabama. By getting that certification and the experience that goes with it, corporate professionals can further not only their careers, but also the goals of the company that employs them. In today’s technological world, MCSE training has never been easier.
